Word jumbles, also known as "word grids" or "word searches", are a type of puzzle. The idea of the puzzle is that the player is presented with a grid of letters arranged into rows and columns, and must find words hidden within the grid. The difficulty of the puzzle is that the words can be arranged in any direction or orientation, including vertically (either downwards or upwards), horizontally (including both left-to-right and right-to-left), and diagonally (in any diagonal direction). Once the player finds a word, he circles it, and the puzzle is finished once the player has found all the hidden words.

Word jumble puzzles are very popular with children. They can be enjoyable, a way to keep busy on rainy days, and perhaps even educational. Solving these types of puzzles, may help a child learn to concentrate, and because the child must concentrate on individual letters and exact spellings, may also help with spelling.
